Advanced Entry to GSA
Not all new students on our undergraduate degree programmes begin their studies in Year 1. Each year a number of successful applicants are offered a place in Year 2 or 3 instead. Entering in this way is often referred to as advanced entry - find out more in this talk by Advanced Entry Manager Elizabeth Biedler.

I have an original copy of the programme/guide for this event, and it makes for fascinating reading for someone like me who is obsessed with the 1930's. I bought it from a charity shop for a couple of pounds.

I came to this 3-D depiction of the 1938 Empire Exhibition via circuitous route: "All Creatures Great and Small", 2021 Series 2, Episode 1 quickly shows James Herriot passing under 1938 Empire Exhibition posters while he's visiting Glasgow. A Wikipedia article about the Exhibition includes a link to this video. I would love to see an updated version of this 3-D simulation that utilizes today's technology. That said, this 3-D video was well done.

Looking forward to studying at the campus in doing what a love is a non exaggeration of many dreams coming true in every aspect of life. Eventhough I reluctantly had to wait due to my personal health. Torrens University flexibility has been helpful in every aspect in getting back to the campus student life in Branded Fashion degree and post degree aspirations for me in obtaining my own fashion label and boutique including my own fashion line. I will definitely chose my subjects next week.

I saw the School in 1972. The exterior stonework back then was black from coal soot. It's ironic that even after the fire the walls are so beautiful. I hope they can be saved and the school can be rebuilt.

The loss of all this is almost akin to the loss of a person, so multidimensional. I don't even have any direct personal affiliation with it, and I feel such a deep sadness about it.

If anyone still visits the comments here, House for an art lover is a modern construction from the 80s/90s and nothing to do with the 1938 Empire Exhibition. It is based on Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s legacy designs. Most of the Exhibition was designed by Thomas Tait. The remaining buildings are Africa House (in Ardeer and recently saved from demolition), The Palace of Engineering (at Prestwick Airport) and the Palace of Art which is still in use for sporting activities within the park.

A wonderful school and still a wonderful conglomeration of spaces to learn. The now destroyed Library was an extraordinary space, hung from above. C R Mackintosh was always experimental. His approach seems to have inspired generations of students. How may we contribute outside the UK and EU to the rebuilding? Anyone?

@Anon A. Mouse The archive was saved and also 70% of the other contents including a large amount of the student work. There are conservators working to retrieve the final year students presentations, who were due to present their work 5 hours after fire broke out. This is a working Art College which obviously requires electricity, how else do you expect people to work in there? A somewhat silly comment from you.

And now - extensively damaged by a May 2014 fire with possible loss of Mackintosh archive and ongoing student work. Looks like the college's everyday utilitarian usage allows for too lazy an eye and a relaxation of respect by those daily privileged to perambulate without a second thought within exquisite designed corridors and halls failed to see that an electric switch needed to be turned off ...

Watching this beautiful video the day after the tragic fire destroyed much of what is seen here. Hope now that the future restoration will bring its heart back. Although it's such a shame so much is irreplaceable ........I've been so lucky to have attended many classes here and hold it dear....

So tragic that an iconic architectural Charles Rennie Mackintosh masterpiece Glasgow College of Art housing archive of Mackintosh pattern books has/maybe been lost, and much prescient student work besides, in a devastating recent conflagration.
